General Dynamics - Ordnance and Tactical Systems Munition Services is the largest commercial disposer of explosive materials and devices in the U.S. Located in the rural outskirts of Joplin, MO, the company has been providing explosive waste disposal services for the commercial explosives industry, automotive industry, oil well servicing industry, defense industry, the U.S. military services, and other local, state and U.S. government agencies such as law enforcement, since 1995. (From 1995 to 2002, GD-OTS MS was known as ICIEEC.) The heart of our explosive waste disposal services is our two RCRA Part B permitted and MACT compliant incinerators, one of which is a Rotary Kiln Incinerator (RKI). Our RKI is the only commercial hazardous waste incinerator in the U.S. that is specifically designed for the incineration of explosive materials and devices. Like all hazardous waste incinerators in the U.S., our permitted hazardous waste incinerators are highly controlled and regulated such that the emissions from disposal of explosive wastes are cleaned of any harmful chemicals, particulates, and heavy metals.
Since 2003, GD-OTS MS has expanded its demilitarization capabilities to support the munitions disposal needs of the U.S. Military Services, especially in the area of cluster munitions. GD-OTS MS has invested millions of dollars in four new state-of-the industry explosive operating building and automated munitions disassembly equipment to disassemble, demilitarize, and destroy projectiles, bombs, and rockets containing cluster munitions. As a result of our investments and developments, GD-OTS MS is now the largest cluster munitions disposal facility in the world. Our technical staff members are continually working on improvement of our facilities and equipment to make them even more safe, efficient, reliable, and productive.
