GD-OTS MS has several permitted thermal treatment units at the end of automated disassembly lines demilitarizing ICM and MLRS grenades, and MLRS rocket motors. In these units, the explosives or propellants are ignited and allowed to burn within the units. Exhaust gases are pulled from the units and cleaned in air pollution control systems to meet RCRA and Title V MACT emission standards. These specialized units free up incineration capacity since these materials do not need to be processed through the Rotary Kiln Incinerator (RKI), while meeting the same emissions standards of the RKI.
